Inkleaf is a small, independent app. Most questions are about adding books or the E-ink flash. Start here.
Most often it is DRM (copy protection). Inkleaf opens DRM-free EPUB files only and does not remove copy protection, so a book locked to one store's app will not open. Other reasons: the file is not really an EPUB (for example a PDF renamed to .epub), the file is damaged (download it again), or it is a fixed-layout or audio-synced EPUB, which Inkleaf does not support. The app tells you which it found.
Save the .epub file on your phone (the Files app on iPhone, or Downloads on Android; if it is in iCloud Drive or Google Drive, download it first). Open Inkleaf, tap Add book and choose the file. It appears in your library with its cover, title and author. There is no share-sheet or "Open in" import yet.
Tap the right third of the screen for the next page, the left third for the previous page, and the centre to show or hide the menu. The Aa button in the menu changes text size, font, line spacing and margins.
In the library, press and hold the book's cover and confirm Remove book. This deletes Inkleaf's copy, its cover and your reading place. Your original file is not touched. There is no undo.
Only on your phone, in Inkleaf's private storage. Inkleaf copies each book when you add it, so it keeps working even if you delete or move the original. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. Uninstalling Inkleaf deletes the copies.
That is on purpose. Inkleaf imitates an E-ink screen. The quick black-then-white flash and the faint ghost of the previous page each have a switch: open Aa, then E-ink display settings, and choose Off, or a flash every page, 5 pages or 10 pages. Pages also change with no animation, on purpose.
Inkleaf is designed for phones, in portrait. It is not designed or tested for iPad or Android tablets.
Not in this version. Inkleaf reads DRM-free EPUB files as pages and remembers where you stopped. It has no book store and no syncing between devices.
No account. No analytics, no ads, no network connections. See the privacy policy.
Changing text size, font, spacing or margins re-flows the book into a different number of pages. Inkleaf brings you back to about the same place, which can differ by a page, or by a few paragraphs in a very long chapter.
Email us your phone model, the iOS or Android version, the Inkleaf version, the book name (and where the EPUB came from, if you can), and a screenshot of the message you see. We do not need, and do not want, a copy of your book.
